(there are MAJOR yakuza 1-7 spoilers here so dont look at this if u aren't familiar)
like yeah, sure, the jokes about kashiwagi surviving a chaingun barrage or lau surviving a shot to the head are funny and all, but since yokoyama took over there have been 5 major character deaths (lee, kashiwagi, lau, richardson and joon-gi han) who were all either retconned or sidestepped so that these characters could appear again in new entries, and while i LIKE these characters and don't mind seeing them again, i do think there's something to be said about the overwhelming feeling that death just does not matter in the RGG world now.  when you talk about things like mine or ryuji coming back, you aren't just talking about the return of beloved characters, you are talking about taking the lessons kiryu learned from this immense loss and throwing it all away. you are talking about lessening the impact of watching a man so deeply and thoroughly in love that he renounced his wicked ways and used his last moments to save his love and his nemesis, and then taking that sacrifice and making it mean nothing. you are talking about taking the feeling of a deeply broken man mere moments from death, emboldening himself with the ambition of a dragon and having one last duel, and you are telling us that feeling meant nothing. the sudden shock and horror of kashiwagi's death happening in the middle of an otherwise light hearted story as kiryu can't even grieve what was basically his uncle, the distress in seeing the gruesome death of lau and then intrigue of his killer, these moments mean something and they mean something BECAUSE of the weight death carries in that universe, so when you start undoing things willy nilly because you want certain characters to come back, you kinda create this atmosphere that death doesn't really even matter. why should i be sad about the arakawas dying in 7? they could always just come back later after a recast and a fresh coat of paint, right??  death has to mean something

this all happening the same month that they start calling miles "spin" in a comic has painted a crystal fucking clear picture of the bigots that run marvel rn and you all should not be financially supporting them whatsoever. support your favorite individual artists, but marvel can choke.
