The job of engineers is not to deploy some technology but to build robust, reliable and sustainable (in all meanings of that word) solutions for real world problems based on requirements directly derived from people's needs. Even for an engineer technology comes second at best.

I’ve never used Rust but I have similar feelings about C++; I don’t think I buy the line about it being a bad first choice, I think it can really set you up for quicker learning in the long run because it encourages you to understand those fundamentals

I'm trying to figure out, as a fan of rust, whether my view that "Learn Rust" is bad learn to code advice, is just because I'm an old fart.

There's definitely rust jobs out there. But also, the point of learning your first systems language isn't so you can get a job it's to know how computers work
