I don't think the problem is that genetic engineering makes people evil, I think the problem is that the people who do the genetic engineering will be the ultra rich, and therefore, the ultra evil. They raise a generation of monsters, and those monsters try to take over the world.

I imagine they might care somewhat about the US making up a fake energy weapon that caused their embassy workers‘ CFS as an excuse to not lift the needlessly punishing sanctions on their country!

China from cynical perspective benefits from inactivity in MENA because it allows the US to continue its irrational expenditure of resources for race war but you can't turn around and then claim it's actually moral to abstain. The USSR was an active albeit cynical player + helped South Africans.

The argument only goes so far as "I don't like evil people being in charge of the death machine" and never considering that the death machine is the evil part and will continue to do evil no matter who wields it
