Walked the neighborhood and found this beautiful foliage. Nature’s gift 🥰

A reminder to stop doom scrolling.

When a patient was told by 3 different doctors he needed his leg amputated, he found me.

I said the same thing.

But after many conversations, he eventually let me help him. Step by step, I earned his trust, and he never really needed that amputation after all.

Trust is that important.

A patient refused a surgery to remove a dead toe.

She died later that week.

And that was a first core memory I had as a resident doctor.

“Black Americans are much less likely than white Americans to undergo procedures that can prevent amputation, known as limb salvage.”

What should we do?

Let disappointment be the fuel for your purpose.

Align with things you care about.
Attract those who get it.
Repel those who don’t.

To the pre-meds, med students, and those in training, I realize you are inheriting a broken healthcare system. Don’t let it break your spirit. We can change the trajectory by questioning authority, science & dogma at every step, even if it makes them uncomfortable.

Very looking forward to this book.

Many of us went into medicine believing science was infallible only to realize in real life it is heavily corrupt. Having a critical eye is essential in understanding science.

A mental fitness program was one of the most impactful gift I received last year. It helped me be less agitated with the morning rush, minor inconvenience annoyances that comes throughout the day, and the negative thoughts that interfere with my productivity.

I used to work as a pharmacy technician & we’d label the bottles to be expired 30 days from dispensing it.

Many times the expiration date was beyond that and when I asked my supervisor why this was the practice, I didn’t get a good answer.

I understand the mistrust that happens in healthcare.

How to be less dependent on health insurance:

- drink lots of water
- read things that make you happy
- eat lots of fiber
- slow down
- invest in therapy & preventive care
- move every day

In a world filled with toxins, healthy living is the ultimate rebellion. #medsky
