Threads post One of the most deliciously subversive passages in the whole Bible is Exodus 1:15. In Hebrew, the book of Exodus is called Shemot. It doesn’t mean “exodus.” It means “names,” because that’s how the book starts. “These are the names…” After naming the sons of Israel, the next to be named are two midwives: Shiphrah and Puah (may their names be remembered.) And then the book goes on to NEVER name the pharaoh. Absolutely brilliant.
