I am now imagining Bunlith in a cafe singing the chorus to Hurt while writing a screenplay. Amazing.

Time was the Last Jedi would have made number 2 and the Force Awakens would have ranked above Revenge of the Sith, which I think really goes to show how bad Skies of Ryewalker was. I still appreciate what both were trying to do but the ultimate pay off was just the worst.

One final point I forgot to add in the alt text to Tekken 8 is that I know they could have had Jin be influenced by evil forces and still have legit sins to repent for because Bandai Namco's other big fighter, Soul Calibur, did exactly that for Siegfried, and it worked great there. More in alt.

Fun. Not good certainly but I was just in for the ride at this point and it was one hell of a ride. And while I think Jin's redemption arc in this game is weak, I appreciate the attempt and there's something to be said about him winning the day by finding his will to live. WAY more thoughts in alt.

Okay yeah, the story is bad. It retcons the Devil Gene poorly, has a reporter in-between the scenes talking about how the story is affecting him that couldn't be more boring, bad endings, and both tries to make Heihachi sympathetic and a groomer. It's still better than 6 but that's not saying much.

Also non-canon but, unlike TTT, a lot of its story beats are informative and were even added to the canon themselves and they're all fantastic! This is probably the last game in the series to have really good endings and whether they were silly or serious, the presentation was on fucking point.

Awful. The game itself is fun but the Scenario Campaign is boooriiing. Not to mention complete character assassination for Jin. Even after his ending in 5, I just figured he was losing control of himself because of the Devil Gene but nope! Effectively starting WW3 was all him! What a load.

Peak of the series that for some reason they keep retconning to be worse in future games. Jinpachi was much cooler in my head when his curse was considered the Devil Gene. Ah well. At least it had a nice blend of serious story moments and comedy.

Despite being the black sheep of the series, Tekken 4's probably got the best story so far. The return of Kazuya cementing him as a true villain just as bad as the Devil Gene is great, as is Jin cementing himself as just the opposite (sure hope they don't drop the ball in two games!)

Yes, I'm counting it. I mean, okay, it's clearly non-canon but the endings they provide are a treat, even if they're mostly just character interactions. Would be really interesting to live in a world where Tag was canon and what Unknown would do to shake up the narrative.

If T2's where the story truly begins, T3 is where the series finds its identity. I'd say its story beats are overall not as strong as in 2 but it's clearly setup for something larger and hot damn it's a strong start.
