Not that grim: threshold difference is about £1200 and the threshold will then increase over time. I wish the government would be honest and call it the “graduate salary sacrifice scheme” rather than “loan repayment”.

Using time as a defence can actually make it worse: the “Hitler was right“ “Gas ‘em all!” comments were made in a London school in 1975, when the adults around him would remember the blitz, war veterans were in their 50s and probably know people killed in it.

My suspicion is the government is sufficiently confident that EVs are the future on the basis of just being better that the tax differential won’t matter. Driven my dad’s hybrid and it’s god-awful in comparison.

Farage saw what happened to Nick Griffin on QT years ago, and has been tight on message discipline ever since. There have been a few slips (“Sunak doesn’t understand our culture”), but this story is the first to really rattle him.
