This is bleak reading

Been reading about the last week of Jesus' life because, well, it's Holy Week.

I had this rather prosaic realization: Jesus did A LOT that week. Triumphal entry, cleansing the temple, exchanges w/ the pharisees, healings, a ton of parables.

All in the hardest week of his life.

I'm not a religious person, but:

"In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

will never not give me the shivers.

Banging introduction, that.

We are reading these stories to our kids and they’re loving them.

And by “we” I mean Grace.

Pro tip:

When you find yourself arguing with someone over an article or book, gently suggest that the cause of the disagreement may be a reading comprehension issue on their part.

Really defuses things.

Got some big plans for Christmas!

I’m going to sip eggnog, nibble on Christmas cookies, and fall asleep in various places throughout the house.

Can you top that??

Got a dozen 13 year old boys at our house for my son’s birthday party. It’s fascinating to watch them in their natural habitat—playing video games, drinking Mountain Dew, and saying “bruh.”

One small comfort I have when someone I know dies is that they now realize I was right about all our theological disagreements.

My annual Thanksgiving reminder ...

Don't ruin your family gathering by discussing politics.

Do it by bringing up religion.

My daughter: “I don’t want to be famous …”

Me: (wow we must be doing something right)

Her: “… I just want to be rich.”

A good icebreaker for Thanksgiving dinner, especially if you have a mixed group of friends and extended relatives with different beliefs and backgrounds:

Who did you vote for and why?

My brother owns a modeling agency. A couple days ago he had a male model in the office with a tattoo that read: “John 3:14.”

He accidentally gave the tattoo artist the wrong verse. 😆

No ragrets.
