Yumi works as a standalone! I personally think the magic explanation towards the end can be a little overwhelming as a first exposure to the cosmere, but know that if thats the case, it gets easier as you read more

Honestly Mistborn has more of that romantasy vibe (nobility, balls, fmc coming of age), but Tress is a more lighthearted read so either could work. I stand by my mistborn rec haha

I personally recommend Mistborn as the best starting place! Tress is also considered a good place to start, but imo Mistborn is a better starter.
