An opinionated geek. Believes a better world is a possibility. Not afraid of revolutions. Willing to embrace chaos. A jack of many trades, a master of some.
A new @lawfaremedia.org piece where I argue that if internet access is to be considered a human right, then internet blackouts violate that right and a more robust response by the international community to combat state-implemented blackouts is required. 🧵/5

Does anyone else bicker with their LLM of choice? Mine are so bad. Today perplexity pissed me off so I made her read Arms & Influence then write “there are only two types of deterrence” 100 times.

Still hadn't the time to properly read the @sophossecurity.bsky.social Active Adversary Report, but I find this thread - cyberplace.social/@GossiTheDog... - by @GossiTheDog.cyberplace.social.ap.brid.gy highly interesting. 1/🧵

In a new paper with @joedevanny.bsky.social for @lawfare.bsky.social, we use the "Pacific Rim" campaign by @sophossecurity.bsky.social as an opportunity to further the understanding of norms of responsible behavior in cyberspace and counter-cyber operations (CCO)/active cyber defense (ACD).

Sophos, a developer of endpoint protection software, recently disclosed its active cyber defense campaign, Pacific Rim. Michael Genkin and @joedevanny.bsky.social explore why the campaign was effective and what lessons it has for responding to threat actors in the future.
The ‘Pacific Rim’ Campaign: Corporate Norm Entrepreneurship and Active Cyber Defense
Sophos’s account of its recent active cyber defense campaign can help shape norms of “responsible behavior” in cyberspace.

Living in Israel - there is no need to imagine any of this. Though a difference on the order of magnitude - all those experiences are just too common. This is what makes the lack of explicit and overt Israeli support of Ukraine ever more shameful.
Imagine crouching in a bomb shelter for weeks or months as artillery shells bombard the places you live and work. Imagine tanks and soldiers indiscriminately shooting your neighbors and at you (as they did in Bucha, Irpin, and Kupyansk.

A new paper with Ariel Sobelman for the Isreal's INSS, in what is a somewhat off-piste adventure for me, that examines the implications of the DeepSeek R1 model for the Israeli AI policy. Head to www.inss.org.il/publication/... for the full analysis or enjoy this quick 🧵with our main findings -

Back to my #CTI archeology thing, and it's time again to call upon the #hivemind - looking for the 2011 #MTrends report ("When Prevention Fails"). Any chance you have a copy you can share?
Reposts for reach appreciated.

All jokes aside, I think cyber warfare would be tough as the baseline reliability of many critical IT systems isn't that great anyway.
