Using my first post to say that I mostly came here to speak freely with anonymity so that I can keep doing the important work of educating our future. Advocating for things like media literacy and critical thinking isn’t super popular where I am, but I’ll keep teaching them until they take me away.
Been quiet lately as one of my best friends died unexpectedly a week ago. Dealing with the grief from that in addition to my cat likely nearing the end of his life, our democracy likely ending tomorrow, and some weird health issues I cannot seem to figure out is…not fun. 😟

Very seriously considering giving up social media altogether because I cannot handle the deep disappointment with the idiocy of grown ass adults that somehow failed into power in this country. There are about 4 or 5 different things that happened today alone to lead to this sentiment.

My first act of resistance in 2025 was getting up to workout before my first day back at work. It was only half my normal workout, but I’ve been sick for 2 weeks and definitely haven’t fully recovered. Beating the heavy bag for a few rounds was much needed on this Jan. 6th morning, though.

Is it possible to shoehorn this into the existing curriculum? Yes! Is it extremely hard to do it with fidelity in a tested subject? Also yes! Media literacy education was the subject of my dissertation. I KNOW how vital it is, and yet, I only got to skim the surface in my English class this semester
While we’re banning books…

Finland is teaching children in school how to recognize fake news and propaganda as part of critical thinking and civic responsibility. Some of this will seem very familiar.

Be. Like. Finland.

Gratefully, I seem to be on the mend. Got all the indoor Christmas decorations but the bare tree down, reorganized, and stored in the garage. Had to stop more frequently and took it slower than normal because I’m definitely still in recovery, but I was just happy to DO something today.

Update: The meds are doing their job, but this led to me sleeping until 12:20pm and now I feel like I’m in some bizarre wrinkle in time because I feel like it’s like 9am, but it’s 1pm. I do not like it.

I’m so tired of coughing. These meds the doc prescribed better get the job done. My head and body are starting to hurt from all the coughing, and I’m tired as hell from all the coughing fits keeping me up all night.

I appreciate that our local hospital network, as in EVERY office tied into the hospital network, only shows HGTV on their waiting room TVs. No news channels. I hope whoever decided on that policy had a lovely holiday. 👍🏼

No idea why I’ve gained like 60 followers in the last 24 hours, but welcome! Today, y’all get to join me in my journey into the exploitative American healthcare system.

Randomly getting a lot of new followers on here despite not even opening the app for over a week because I’ve been sick. Hey everyone! 👋🏼

Today, I learned how to brown butter. If someone ever makes you something with brown butter in it, be appreciative. That junk is a labor of love.

In other news, having my students read Fahrenheit 451 this semester was 100% the right choice.

I’ve been quiet on here because the current reality within my day-to-day bubble is already enough to deal with. Although I’m following a lot of folks whose beliefs I align with on here, I just don’t want to see the news right now.

Buzz McCallister definitely grew up to be a republican congressman. And yes, I’m watching Home Alone 2.

There are some days that nothing can prepare you to navigate as a teacher. Starting the day by finding out a coworker 10 years younger than you passed the day before and you cannot tell students because of dual enrollment exams is one of those things.

Saw Moana 2 today. It was pretty good. Not as great as the first one, but what struck me is there was a moment early in the movie that harped on the need to unite different people to defeat an evil god…who doesn’t play fair, and it made me cry. Apparently I’m even less okay than I thought.

Am I about to watch the Lifetime Christmas movie inspired by Taylor and Travis even though I NEVER watch Lifetime or Hallmark movies? Yes. Yes I am.

We’re doing Thanksgiving dinner with family tomorrow. I wanted pecan bars (pecan pie in bar form) but didn’t feel like making them but still wanted them…so I put the Great British Baking Show. Pecan bars are in the oven.

Today, I’ve been intermittently watching the 2015 Office-style Muppet show. It is SO underrated and hilarious. (P.S. Not everything I say on here will be political or controversial. I’m a person too.)
