I'm in NYC for work this week

Had a good time at a work event & it hit me that it's been awhile since I've been truly able to relax at such events... or anywhere. It was nice, hope it's a sign of progress, not just a one-off.

Yesterday was a good day.

Despite not getting as much done at work as I would have liked, or at home...

My bestest buddy Dudley, came to stay with me. 🐶 Logistics & travel will be tougher, but I've got somebody with me now.

Now I'm not talking to myself... as far as anyone knows.

This image shows why vibe coding, and non-technical people trying to create platforms with no real help... Is a very bad idea.

You know you've taken a good break from #gamedev when you try to jump back in, and use the wrong character to comment out lines of code

But my 🧠 truly needed this extended break

Played around w #blender & made an ultra low-poly terrain with elevated areas, a canal, a few basic bridges, and a beach.

And I imported into #Godot

No idea if it'll end up sized right, or work well with the gridmaps... but it's a #gamedev thing that I did
& will likely do 12 more times b4 done

On top: A day & night view of the retail apt building that looks like it belongs in New Orleans’ French Quarter.
On bottom: a row of Brownstones (night & day views this time) shown here in a myriad of colors.

I'm pleased the window detail showed up in texturing.
I guess I won't know for sure until I get it in engine & see it in work.

I also went back in and fixed the corners on the triangle building. Didn't think to alter them at the time.

I can move on to working pre-made assets for now... I think.

Think I'm done modeling this one. Not sure the I made with window details deep enough to be seen...but... Fun Project!

I'm perhaps losing sight of the low poly nature of my game.

If I build it I'm gonna want to use it.
But I can't be stopped!

#blender is like coloring books for adults.
Weird crayons, but once you're over that it's craft time!

I'm counting all of this as #gamedev time
(otherwise I'd have to stop)

Putting off the start of Monday as long as I can & using the time to up my window game.

Found a good YT tutorial and learned a few new #blender tricks. Mirroring, easier rotating. Nice.

Had to keep my window a least semi - low poly, but yeah there's a bevel or two in there.

Somebody stop me!

Have to admit I haven't HATED my time with #belnder. I'm still amazed by the speed and ease others have while modeling, but I'm learning enough to be dangerous.

I made a building inspired by NYC's "Brownstones".
(well, a low poly cartoon version)

Some noob 3D work for #ScreenShotSaturday - Hey! Triangle building exist IRL!

Also, saw some in ref photos building with odd window patterns & thought maybe it would add some “lived in” feel.

Here's the result. Plenty of things I don’t love & need to learn, but all unlikely noticeable in my game.

In a VERY odd twist: buildings I made perform well & in cases like trying to fade the mesh, work a bit better than pro built ones

I’ll recheck UVs but the textures look ok

I REALLY doubt I’d end up not using Kenney’s. I’m already using 9 of them & may yet #gamedev something to improve their fades
