One of the fun things about knowing a lot about something is seeing people on social media authoritatively saying absolutely wacky stuff about it. (This is probably less fun if your area of expertise is vaccines or something.)

These two buildings in Park Slope call the same street different names.

Today I learned this is because, after President Garfield was assassinated in 1881, people on Macomb St asked to honor Garfield with a renaming. They were also tired of their street being confused with Macon St in Bed-Stuy

Such an elemental yet overlooked reality of planning. If you don't:
- Design a new route to add value to the network overall
- Make changes to the existing network to incorporate the new asset

...you're kneecapping yourself. A key part of transit hist:

My favorite ludicrous New Yorker style is that they print initialisms in full caps but acronyms (initialisms pronounced as words) in small caps, so in the days of CD-ROMs, they'd write the word like this:

somewhere in an alternate universe there's museums with freeways that people can drive around on, and cities with streetcars people use in everyday life

Is it just me, or have all existing links (including DOIs) to National Academies publications broken because of the apparent migration to a new website (that also made me create a new account)?

As is now after (American) Thanksgiving, I have completed my seasonal transformation from an R62 to a "green hornet" R33 in Transit Museum Holiday Nostalgia Train guise. Commence festive vibes.

Last express of the day Thanksgiving Eve is really the holiday travel play. Far better than actual rush hour or tomorrow morning.

The Holiday Lights Trains are back!

We'll be doubling the holiday spirit this year with the addition of a festive diesel train, bringing bright lights and spreading holiday cheer to even more stations!

These Holiday Lights trains will make their debut on Friday and run through New Year’s.

How did a (spam) post that did not mention me and is not a reply to me end up in my notifications? (I blocked and reported, but I am still confused.)

On the other hand, Portland, OR is further north than Portland, ME!
Portland is further south than Paris
Man, everything is so bleak, anyone got a fun fact or little bit of trivia they want to share

I really, really would like to be able to turn off reposts by user on here. I have found myself muting people I *like* and whose actual posts I'd rather see than not because they repost so much, and often it's not even content objectionable to me but it's just more than I want in my feed.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed 4 years ago. In new research @urbaninstitute.bsky.social we study its effects.

US transport spending increased by 30%, but:

Listen. This "inspiration" is unacceptable.

You've gotta at least say it was inspired by the traditional Scottish sporran or invent some personal story like "So I was in my kitchen, high as a kite, and then a DISHCLOTH stood up and recited the entirety of THE JABBERWOCKY and then ATE MY PHONE..."

The most interesting thing about the Edmund Fitzgerald is that it was built and owned by Northwestern Mutual.

Insurance company that owns an ore freighter is primo midcentury investment diversification.
