it is mostly errors in volume or page numbers, & sometimes authors. In a couple of cases, changes in author order or even leaving off authors. I have been thinking that it is due to scavenging the data from sources that have themselves cited them incorrectly instead of sourcing from the journals

Canadian here: I use Google Scholar to prepare an annual Bibliography of mayfly papers for the Mayfly Newsletter. I've definitely noticed an increase in incorrect & incomplete refs in their lists, as well as an increase in unpublished info to filter - checking every ref with the journal is a must!
