Work in IT. It's boring but it pays the bills, but also prevents me spending more time surrounded by nature, taking pictures.

If you didn't photograph it, why did you bother going?

The Sweet Chestnut (or Spanish Chestnut) at Balmerino Abbey in Scotland was rumoured to have been planted by Queen Ermengarde in the 13th century.

However, more recently it has been dated to around 450 years old, which still makes it the oldest tree in Fife.

Panorama on The Long Mynd, Shropshire, England.

The name Long Mynd means "long mountain", the second element being Brittonic in origin.

Brittonic languages are thought to have been spoken in Britain from around the 6th century BCE to the 6th century CE.

The remains of the chapter house, Balmerino Abbey, Fife, Scotland. The Cistercian monastery was founded from 1227 to 1229 by monks from Melrose Abbey.

Access to the ruins is currently restricted for safety reason, due to their poor state of repair.

Newburgh, on the south shore of the Firth of Tay, Fife, Scotland.

In 1266 Newburgh was granted burgh status by King Alexander III, as a burgh belonging to the Abbot of Lindores.

Incidentally, Lindores Abbey Distillery opened in the town in 2017 and their whisky is excellent.

Until 1970, this viaduct carried trains on the Edinburgh to Perth line. Hidden in the trees is the entrance to one of the Glenfarg tunnels. These are now open to the public, but the tunnels are unlit, so my wife said **** that, we're not going through there. And that was that.

Magpie Mine, Sheldon, Peak District, Derbyshire.

The conditions in Victorian mines would have been dire for the workers. But with the passage of time, and nature reclaiming what is hers, there is now I believe, immense beauty in these former industrial landscapes.
