Work in IT. It's boring but it pays the bills, but also prevents me spending more time surrounded by nature, taking pictures.

If you didn't photograph it, why did you bother going?

This is my first Bluesky post, so I wanted to give you an idea of what interests me.

Ponies grazing on the Long Mynd, Shropshire, England.

Far from being wild, these ponies are owned by a group of farmers, known as ‘commoners’.

Commoning began on the Long Mynd over 2000 years ago and there is written evidence of organised management from the 13th century.

Conventional wisdom says to avoid astrophotography during a full moon. Whilst it doesn't give the best the view of the night sky, I love the way the moon lights up the countryside.

But for the stars, this view of The Long Mynd in Shropshire almost looks like it was shot in daylight.

This cross at Balmerino Abbey, Fife, Scotland, marks the location of the High Altar, a central point of worship and spiritual significance.

It is also the burial site in 1233 of Queen Ermengarde, the abbey's founder, consort of William the Lion and mother of Alexander II.

The Sweet Chestnut (or Spanish Chestnut) at Balmerino Abbey in Scotland was rumoured to have been planted by Queen Ermengarde in the 13th century.

However, more recently it has been dated to around 450 years old, which still makes it the oldest tree in Fife.

Panorama on The Long Mynd, Shropshire, England.

The name Long Mynd means "long mountain", the second element being Brittonic in origin.

Brittonic languages are thought to have been spoken in Britain from around the 6th century BCE to the 6th century CE.
