Rant about companies that purport to give you "choices about your privacy" through a toggle switch to opt in or out of targeted advertising, etc. - but deceptively don't label the toggle as to which direction is opting in and which is opting out. Any guesses on which way is which here?

Agree on the dill beans. The recipe we use from Mom is below - think it's from the circa 1970s cookbook "Stocking Up: How to Preserve the Foods You Grow, Naturally" by Carol Stoner. But a stockpot of boiled green beans, new potatoes, bacon, and salt and pepper is also a family favorite.

Add another reason to why the Pulaski is my favorite tool for the fire line (and for gardening).

Audio books + long outside jaunts are about the only thing keeping me sane these days.

The highway is closed to cars, but clearing has started, which means a quiet, beautiful run, with only a couple necessary scrambles over some recent avalanches.

These lands are the crown jewels of the U.S. Undercutting already struggling federal land mgmt agencies is a visceral punch that will imperil our public lands and everything that depends on them. Here is a call to people who love these lands as deeply as I do to rise, resist, and fight for them.

I've left my blood on them, I've given them deceased loved ones to watch over, I've given them sweat, tears, and in some moments gave all the physical effort I had in me to give. They're where I go to celebrate, to escape, to challenge myself, to relax. These places are my church.

I dedicated much of my work life to these lands. Working for the USFS as a range tech, then as a wildland firefighter, to put myself through undergrad and law school. I left a partnership at a private law practice to work for nonprofit organizations that exist to support the health of these lands.

I've spent a significant portion of my life on National Forests - from the aforementioned subsistence activities, to supporting back country pack trips for hunters and recreationalists, to cooking for wilderness trail crews, to moving cattle, to college research projects ...

These lands are my community, they helped raise me. My parents both worked in field positions for federal land management agencies. These lands provided the venison, fish, berries, and firewood our family relied upon to stretch our limited resources. They're where my Mom's ashes are scattered.

As threats facing our federal public lands grow, I've been reflecting on the impact these lands have on us. ~30% of the U.S. fresh water supply comes from these lands. They are carbon sinks, air purifiers, and wildlife habitat, flood control, outdoor rec centers. But to me they're so much more ...

It's a little chilly today, but the sky is blue and the winds are very light, here in the land of the Lakota.

This is last night's sunset. I flew east this morning and I grabbed a window seat and kept my shade up to take in the scenery - it was so clear you could see all the volcanoes from Rainier to Jefferson. Stunning scenery in sober times.
