Another night, another bookbinding project, sewing endpapers on the text blocks I did the other day and sewing up the signatures for another larger text block tonight, thus the photo.

Tried something different with the photo (extreme close-up of the liquid in a rocks glass). Kinda-sorta "bands on a gas giant" effect.

Smoke, dried fruit, and honey on the nose; cocoa, peat, and candied orange peel on the palate; some spice and vanilla in the finish. Better than I remembered, but I'm still not sold on the bang-for-buck.

I get some hazelnut, apricot, and spice on the nose; tropical fruit on the palate (I always taste banana) with vanilla and nutmeg; and oak, more vanilla, and honey on the finish. Better than their base bottle, but not enough to justify the price, IMO.

Because Internet, it looks like someone has dug into what fonts Google will do this with:

hexagonification.neocities.org/fonts/gsearc...

(It's also a little browser-dependent; some work in Chrome but not in Safari because of different font policies.)
Fonts that appear in Google searches
This is a list of fonts that cause a Google search results page to display in the font searched. It's comprehensive as far as I'm aware, but I've certainly been wrong before.

The chapter talks about different varieties of whale, which Melville groups by size in, of all things, terms referring to the size of books. Especially appropriate as tonight's project was bookbinding.

Another night spent almost entirely on other projects, so another quick setup. Having the dram and getting a start on the reading for the FrizzLit book club for next week with the infamous "Cetology" chapter of "Moby Dick".

Apples, pears, and caramel on the nose; honey, ginger, and shortbread on the palate; more pear and the oak on the finish. Bourbon-y but with wine and oak.

Yet Another Busy Night (a wake, the FrizzLit Moby Dick Book Club, other projects), so this is just the dram framed up on top of last night's project, a map from Edgar Rice Burroughs I'm redrawing to use as endpapers for bookbinding.

Apples, pears, and some funky oak on the nose; sherry notes of dried fruit and orange peel on the palate; with a warm finish where the oak comes back out again.

I am again busy with other projects tonight, thus the quick shot from above the tasting glass.

The nose is lemons and herbs; faint honey, citrus, apples, mango, and pineapple on the palate; and a bit of ginger heat and almonds on the finish. Nothing is particularly overpowering—it's a light, balanced dram.

Just a quickish photo with tonight's project.

Had the opportunity to shoot this today in (flat) natural light; I don't get too many natural light opportunities during Whisky Advent so I take them as I come. Plus, porch whisky is porch whisky.

Peat, sea air, and dried fruit on the nose; sweetness and more dried fruit (apricot) on the palate yielding to peat smoke, salt, and pepper; the smoke sticks around into the finish, with some toffee.

30 must be the number of the day, since I'm also numbering and signing the annual batch of Camp Cachalot calendars I put together to support the camp's alumni association. There just happen to be 30 calendars in this year's batch, pictured here.

Grain and honey on the nose; a ton of sweetness, dried berries, and peppery/gingery spices on the palate; the spices linger and give way to vanilla on the finish. Tasty enough that it might have merited the bottle cost when it first came on the market, but not the prices I'm seeing today.
