Outstanding show by Jonathan Richman at the Somerville Theater tonight.
In this case, a bit over a second (shooting at small aperture).

The stacking here is a bit different from astro, though—it's not about light and noise; instead it's picking parts of all the images in the stack based on what is most in-focus in the overall depth of field.
Detail of a Krupp-made 10 cm. "granaatwerper" (literally "grenade launcher", although in its era of manufacture more akin to a small cannon or mortar) on display in the Vestingmuseum in the fortified town of Naarden in the Netherlands.

Experimenting with new tools: focus stacking. This is a (deceased) carpenter bee taken from one of the traps I use to try and minimize the holes they drill in my porch, on a sassafras leaf. 60 shots stacked.

Not to be a bad influence, but I'm drinking coffee right now.
Harbor at Spakenburg. Note the "wings" on the boats: a local called them "swords", and they serve the same purpose as a keel or daggerboard, as these are flat-bottomed boats that draft as little as 90cm, and the channel here can be as shallow as 1m.

One of the displays inside the Museum Spakenburg. Spakenburg's historical business has been fishing, and the production of smoked fish. These antique wooden crates bear the name of one of the local fishmongers.

In English, clockwise from top, these would be a bowline, a fisherman's knot, a figure eight stopper, a square knot (aka a reef knot), and a sheet bend.
A small knot practice area and instructional card at Museum Spakenburg. I know quite a few knots, so this is an interesting view into a language I don't speak. Since there was a length of rope that was otherwise unoccupied I left them a small Turk's head.

My grandmother always loved to sneak an Oreo or three. Today would have been her 102nd birthday, and her birthday always means Oreos for a snack.
I visited Leiden to learn a bit about the Pilgrim's time there, but unfortunately I happened to visit while the local museum on the subject was in the middle of relocating. The self-guided walking tour took me past the old site, pictured here.

Tonight I:

* went to listen to a talk by author and historian Nathaniel Philbrick
* had Spam for dinner
* started reading Thomas Pynchon's latest
* am settling in to watch "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park"

Weird in here sometimes with this brain.

(Having grown up near to and spent a good amount of time in Plymouth, I felt I should see the other end of the journey while I was in the neighborhood, so to speak.)
Looking across the Beestenmarkt in Leiden towards the Mayflower Hotel. The Pilgrims that came over on the Mayflower (which include about a dozen of my ancestors) spent time in, and set out from Leiden.
