The legendary rainbow tripod fish ( #Bathypteroisphenax) eventually settles on the seabed and lives its life sitting on its fintips above the silty abyssal plane. In its larval form is is one of the most stunning fish we see on our #blackwater dives. #deepsea #marinelife
A rainbow tripod fish looks directly at the viewer with large green, blue, yellow, and purple fins that radiate in almost a complete circle from its body. The fin ray tips end in purple tips.

Meet the harp sponge. We’ve observed this unique sponge only about a dozen times in the last few decades. The intricate structure of this animal is comprised of multiple vanes whose upright branches and evenly spaced filaments are arranged in a way that resembles a harp or a lyre. #MBARIFromTheVault

This is from one of my dives in #Maldives called “Shark tank” near the airport in Malé. This is what happens when you chum the water hoping to attract tiger sharks. No tigers on this dive but no lack of action. 🦑

A few small, colourful fish. They have relatively short bodies and long fins. The body is gold with two black bars, one of which extends onto the rear dorsal and anal fins. The pectoral fins are blue, and all the fins have white spots
