New Tetris 99 hobby: accumulating All Clears while waiting for the game to speed up. I got another one after I clipped it for a new PB

This was a bumper year for 2024 songs breaking through. I always wonder if we might reach too high a ceiling one day, but "BIRDS OF A FEATHER" could chase for the top 5 in the near future the way it's moving up. It's not enough to stop the mean getting dragged back to 2012 though.

It's a new year which means a new update to the yearly Spotify top 100 most streamed songs box plot.

If you start watching the 2025 Grand Final just after 10pm, you can start your year watching Bailey Smith getting de-headbanded while surrounded by a stadium of people singing 'Hey Bailey' (unrelated name coincidence)

We run it back, just as much disoriented commentary on the hits or thereabouts of the year before, a lot more struggling to steer around corners. Same rough time, same channel etc.

I don't want to give anything to them, but I can't help but be fascinated. Imagine someone giving this the tick of approval to post it and be seen by tens of thousands of people (maybe more)

End of an era: The 18 month recurrency rule comes for the Eagles Greatest Hits compilation that's been enjoying free advertising space on the Kiwi charts since early last year

This is the 9th time she's done this but the 'umm, album tracks in Singles???' brigade are out in full force. Wait until they find out that Brisbane & Gold Coast are in the Victorian Football League, or AZ & IL both won Eurovision last decade

How to avoid discourse: Listen to artists who achieved Platinum success 20 years ago just in Australia

Great night, though. There's a young teenage me who'd never believe the opportunity would arrive. 2006 was a life changing year.

Like I'm looking at this week's ARIA Chart and the fact that sombr's singles didn't even move the needle on album release week means that very few people care about the album, and thus it'll hold the best out of this pack, might even climb next week!

ARIA really missed a trick by not announcing the new chart rules like this

Yesterday on Bandle, the music clip guessing game they used Amy Macdonald's "This Is The Life", a song that was massive in mainland Europe but nowhere else. I tracked the guess rate through the day that re-affirms this (getting it in 6 is tantamount to not knowing the song)

There's a sentiment that Christmas playlists are shifting the default order of Christmas hits (esp. Wham! vs. Mariah), so I looked at the Spotify numbers of the biggest Christmas songs and how well they do...in April. A surprise result!

I'm too zonked out to write much about it at present, but the finish line is here

The numbers are all there to spell it out, but if you're just quickly looking at Spotify, you might be tricked into thinking it must be popular off the back of one song, and who's to say that won't eventually translate to more people listening to the album?

The most peculiar bit of reality blurring in "Better Man" is when they're listening to the radio announcing that "Never Ever" by All Saints has debuted at #1. In an era when nearly every #1 hit debuted there, they picked the one song that took months to get there!
