Independent bookstores! When I taught elementary, mostly ages 7 -13, Kidsbooks in Vancouver gave suggestions that always went over really well — they have a good website, ship, and will chat over the phone too

Sadly I only know this because one of the kindest people I know in Ottawa lost a son to the toxic drug crisis and is now a broken hearted force for change. They move within similar spheres of influence
