#Melissa's landfall intensity of 185 mph/892 mb ties it with the Florida Key's Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 as the record minimum pressure of any TC making landfall *anywhere* the NATL basin. I feel for the residents of #Jamaica 😞

The new hurricane season should start where the last season left off, not at A.

Also, EF-0 tornadoes should be classified as something else.

Those will always and forever be my two takes that no one asked for.

He got an entire country running on clean energy. Can he do it again?
Ramón Méndez Galain helped Uruguay decarbonize its grid in just five years, with 98 percent of its energy coming from renewable sources.

I finally broke down, for the first time recruiting AI in an effort to rewrite some copy (for a personal project and not for work) and I'm hooked. I'm not scholarly enough to compose 19th Century American English but ChatGPT instantly produced some stellar syntax.

An hour and a half later, this oil and transformer fire at the Benning Road plant is still raging.

Meanwhile, federal agents continue arresting people on DC-295 below the plume of smoke.

@markellinwood.bsky.social I know this isn't exactly your dept but I'm wondering if you know how your weather stations get installed on buildings not owned or occupied by the purchasing station. For example, how WJLA has control of cameras on hotels.

A police or military drone just silently yet suddenly flew directly over me, doing an arc < 50 feet overhead, then careened at full tilt over the tree line over Western Avenue.

Update on Hurricane Erin's size evolution as of 15 UTC 19 August. The shaded area represents the extent of its 34-knot (tropical storm force) winds from this morning's NHC advisory.

Larger area of winds pushing around the ocean surface means more rough surf and rip current concerns for coastlines.

TBH random, armed dudes in brownshirt camo body-snatching people without accountability does make me feel a bit unsafe.
