Texans WR Nico Collins (concussion) out vs. Patriots
Nico Collins' absence from practice Friday effectively ensured he will miss the Houston Texans' divisional round playoff game against the host New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon.

So the Peanut Gallery says the next step for the Mets should be to secure either Valdez (free agent) or trade Peralta from the Brews. I'm on board w/that. I do think you need 1 vet to anchor that rather young (& still not complete) SP rotation. Plus Tong's most likely not ready day 1. He needs more

A little more about the Mets deal w/Bichette. It's a 3 yr $126m deal w/2 opt outs. There are no deferments.

Mets signing Bo Bichette to three-year deal
The Mets are signing free agent Bo Bichette, emphatically pivoting after missing out on Kyle Tucker.

I'm not going to lie... I knew Bichette was out there but I never in my life imagined the NY Mets would woo him over to the other side of the river.... like I said... it's where Yankees go to retire, right? 🤷

Holy crow-- the Mets have landed Bichette according to a source via the MLBN!

Bichette to Mets on 3-year, $126 million deal (source)
The Mets have agreed to a three-year, $126 million deal with infielder Bo Bichette, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Friday. The club has not confirmed. MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi is reporting ...

This weekend is more or less all about the playoff games for NFL Divisional round semi-finals. The winner of these goes on to play for their respective conference's championship game & takes them possible 2 games away from a Super Bowl title.

SNY's take on what's next the Mets isn't that far fetched even if the environment doesn't seem to be good as far as getting buy in from players/other teams for a trade. That's the real problem now. Who's willing to part w/their guy & possibly give the NYM an edge?

Mets' possible pivots after missing on Kyle Tucker -- and a word on the juggernaut Dodgers
Kyle Tucker agreeing to sign with the Dodgers over the Mets and Blue Jays should've surprised no one. Where does New York go from here?

Though if you want a consolation prize in this whole Tucker LAD thing-- the Blue Jays are the real ones in shock because they were willing to offer Tucker up to 10yrs in their deal. The AAV wasn't as high as NYM (who was under the LAD offer) but still. 😒
January 16, 2026 at 3:36 PM
The Yankees continue to tweak their Bellinger contract offer as they work to try to come to deal. At least he hasn't signed w/the Dodgers after all the time NYY put into this negotiation. I guess that only happens on the other side of the river. No worries he'll move over to the NYM once he's old.😅
January 16, 2026 at 3:33 PM
It's official btw, whether anyone wants to admit it or not-- The NY Mets have a reputation issue & aren't attracting players at this point. They're just a bartering chip for bigger contracts from other orgs for key players. Welcome to leverage team town. Ugh.

And I somehow forgot to mention that the Nets lost to the Pelicans 116-113 on Wednesday night (1/14/26). There's not much to talk about though. It was a close game but still not good. Demin had 17pts. Porter Jr had 20pts. Powell had 16pt & Sharpe had 15pts. So it wasn't like there was no production.

Next up for NY NBA teams:

The BK Nets take on the Bulls tonight at 7:30p ET. They've lost 5 games in a row. Let's see if they make it 6 (please God no).

The NY Knicks take on Mavericks Monday (1/19/26) at 7:30p ET. They've only won 3 of their last 10 games. So fun. Real fun. 🤦‍♂️

The NY Knicks lost against the Golden State Warriors an abysmal 126-113 last night. NY lead in Q1. It was kind of all downhill from there. Shamet came back w/Brunson out on injury but McBride started in Brunson's slot as he too isn't 100%. KAT drew way too many fouls early forcing him to the bench.
January 16, 2026 at 12:58 PM
Per SNY, both the Yankees & Mets have "checked in" about a possible trade for RHP Peralta w/the Brewers.
January 16, 2026 at 12:50 PM
After much wooing by the Mets Kyle Tucker has signed a 4yr $240m contract w/the Dodgers (of course he did) w/all sorts of options, opt outs & bonuses that only your lawyer friend would remotely understand. Know this much-- it's not he biggest contract the LAD has ever offered but it's in the top 10.

We've seen gambling mar the NBA already & that ring being busted wide open has yet again cascaded to another gambling fiasco. This time it's NCAA basketball college teams that seem involved from a scam 1st tried out in China w/their basketball league as a proof of concept. Basically paying players
January 16, 2026 at 1:29 AM
SNY reports that the NY Giants are finalizing their contract w/Harbaugh to be head coach & that they're sure he's coming on board once the deal is worked out. I heard on 1010WINS that it's a 4 yr deal though that might be just a passing rumor. We'll have to see but it looks like it's def happening.
January 16, 2026 at 1:26 AM
SNY reports that the Knicks have listed Brunson day to day after taking an ankle injury in yesterday w/a him definitely being held out for tonight's game. No surprise. He's in a boot & walking w/crutches so we'll see how things go. It's clearly a rough time for this to happen given the low points
January 16, 2026 at 1:23 AM
SNY reports that the Mets have signed LHP Trey McGough to a MiLB 2yr contract. He's a big gamble because even w/a decent 3.21ERA & 1.15WHIP over 6 MiLB seasons there was a point where he had to retire way early (he's 27yo) because things looked so bad w/the White Sox this past season w/a 9ERA & a

The Athletic is saying (per Art Rooney II owner of the Steelers) that Mike Tomlin's exit from coaching is family-driven likely meaning you won't see him coaching any time in the near future at all.

The Athletic points out that while the Denver Broncos have the best regular season record in the NFL this season; that they also the worst record against all the teams left in the playoffs relative to those teams records against them (7-9-1). It's the 1st time since 1975 where a no. 1 seed in a

International non-pro signings opened up yesterday. The Mets have made one! They've sign no. 2 international prospect Wandy Asigen (SS). Even more tea worthy: he was also offered a Yankees contract that he declined. Now he is young (16yo) so you're not seeing him in MLB for years. He's from the DR.
January 15, 2026 at 4:10 PM
Per the NY Post, the latest offer to Tucker from the Mets is a 4yr contract. Actually a bit longer than I personally thought (my guess was 3yr) & most likely a compromise from the 5-8yr contract he was looking BUT I'm also seeing reports from XM Sirius that it's a $50m AAV over that term so not bad.
