But creative workers don't have to rely on the US government to rescue us from AI predators. We can do it ourselves, the way the writers did in their historic writers' strike. The writers brought the studios to their knees. They did it because they are organized and solidaristic, but also are allowed to do something that virtually no other workers are allowed to do: they can engage in "sectoral bargaining," whereby all the workers in a sector can negotiate a contract with every employer in the sector.

That's been illegal for most workers since the late 1940s, when the Taft-Hartley Act outlawed it. If we are gonna campaign to get a new law passed in hopes of making more money and having more control over our labor, we should campaign to restore sectoral bargaining, not to expand copyright.

Our allies in a campaign to expand copyright are our bosses, who have never had our best interests at heart. While our allies in the fight for sector bargaining are every worker in the country. As the song goes, "Which side are you on?"

The dense bean salad craze helped shift my mindset when it comes to veggies.

Just show schnauzers, I think. Most owners just keep their brows trimmed up and out of their eyes. I think the style developed out of their history as a working breed. (ratters, guard dogs, etc) There's actually three sizes of them! I like the giant schnauzers. The miniatures can be yappy.

I've been able to resist every flavor of 80s nostalgia so far: Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, Smurfs, etc. but I just saw a video of a mall overseas selling Monchichis, and this is the one that tempts me. I got my doll at 4 when we lived in Panama, but it was lost in a move 17 years ago.

Oh, also, I made Tini’s mac & cheese for the family. Not being able to taste as I cooked was all kinds of fun, but they all gave it a thumbs up, and request it go into the holiday meal rotation, so I guess it was pretty good!

Also, my Kate Bush Pandora station is serving up a lot of Bjork, and I honestly forgot how much I like her music.

A gathering of spice mixes lie on a counter: Adobo seasoning, Sofrito, oregano, Sazon, and chicken builloin. These will be applied to a pork shoulder along with eight kabillion cloves of garlic.

My husband and I spent the day at MFAH soaking up art, and it was time WELL SPENT. ❤️🤩

Powder Box in River and Jade by Amber Cowan is a gorgeous light green sculpture of pressed glass of dozens of blooms and leaves arranged in a circular shape. a goblet style cup sits in the center and overflows with the flora.

A huge cream and black tapestry with bold iconography reflecting the Hispanic culture of its creators. It was created as part of the MOATIMA collective, female artists responses to being blocked from artist spaces.
