I think we're cognitively ill equipped for the rapid rollout of new information tech paradigms, and I definitely don't want to come off like I'm defending AI. If anything I'm denigrating the web as a lot less good than it once seemed.

Which I think is a good analogy, because everyone was sick of the web in the 90s and it was getting inserted into everything, and then all of those companies collapsed and it turned into something much more benign for a while.

It's going to be ubiquitous, but it'll be ubiquitous the way the web is and not the way air is, like they're trying to make it.

I mean, they won by 8, they didn't get "carried over the line", but it being just a solid win instead of an OVERWHELMING win even with these resources is very bad news for them.

I actively miss getting called out for shit, because when you're called out it sucks but you get the chance to analyze your own behavior for things you should correct. You can always just discard it. But it happening at all means people feel empowered to tell you when you fuck up.

In the early days of the internet I bought into the "never block anyone, blocking is losing" ethos but as I've...mellowed with age, let's say...I've come to realize that curating my experience is best for everyone involved. And also that I don't care about the opinions of people who think otherwise.

When you define yourself as a "rationalist" in an identity sense, you necessarily flip your thinking from "I have rational thoughts, therefore I am rational" to "I am a rationalist, therefore my thoughts must be rational".
