an Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation grown over 25 years, in Walgett, remote NSW, where the Ngamaay joins the Baawan (rivers). Full members are Aboriginal people living in Walgett over the age of 60.
NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley & Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon met with the Walgett Wellbeing Collaboration (WWC) at Galuma-li in Walgett 5/11/25 to introduce the local co-ordination of community-led services for children & young people that the WWC has been building in Walgett since early 2024

1/2 Walgett River Water Quality 21st March 2025.
The pH, salinity & temperature at all sites & depths on both the Ngamaay & Baawan Rivers are today within a healthy range. With the dissolved oxygen there are a few readings where they are in the healthy range 😡⚠️AND A FEW WITHIN A DANGEROUS RANGE. 😡⚠️

Dharriwaa Elders Group was pleased to host staff of the Natural Resource Access Regulator at its offices in Walgett on the 11th March 2025. We had a wide-ranging and productive meeting and look forward to working closely with NRAR in the future.

🧵1/3 Walgett River Water Quality.

The pH levels and salinity levels at all sites along the Ngamaay and Baawan Rivers are within the healthy range.
The dissolved oxygen at the 5 Mile (Baawan River), Stock Route and Boat Ramp (Ngamaay River) are outside the healthy range but are at an okay level.

🤨The pH readings at most sites were good. There was one reading from the Stock Route (Baawan River) and one reading from the Walgett Weir (Ngamaay River) that were outside the healthy range.🤨

🎊Dharriwaa Elders Group has re-launched the Youth Wellbeing Service. 🎊
🌞We had a four-week activity trial where Walgett young people came along and participated in a range of activities.

News from the Walgett River Rangers 4/12/24:
There is currently minor flooding in the Ngamaay and Baawan Rivers. In the Baawan River there is a strong flow and the Baawan is backing up into the Ngamaay. If you are planning on going to the river, please be safe!

1/3: Opportunity for NSW Government to work differently in its response to the fine burden on disadvantaged communities.

Dharriwaa Elders Group (DEG) welcomes the announcement that 23,000 fines from the lockdowns during the pandemic will be withdrawn and repaid by the NSW Government.
