The 'middle class' is the class of people in the middle. They sit between the owners and the workers. It isn't any more complex than that really.

You could also use colour-coding for different regiments or what have you. Helps to keep the toys tidy.

Definitely not the green

Sorry, for clarity I meant the only policy lever they've identified in the White Paper itself. Obviously it would be possible to get to those goals with a different approach to the one that they're taking.

They have no actual policy lever to pull though, other than research funding. Only a few universities receive enough research funding to be responsive to that lever, and those are the ones they don't wish to change.

I thought the posh men joined the Guards not the RAF?

The Russell Group has a tool that might be helpful www.informedchoices.ac.uk. It can show you what kinds of A-level choices will keep your options open at a later stage.

What are your kids trying to achieve for their next steps?

Thanks for responding

I think @garius.bsky.social's take on Collingwood as in some way forgotten is pretty clear evidence that he's a Londoner. Those of us who grew up in the North East know different.

Or the Thatcher government and Rhodesian UDI. It isn't like empire just vanished.

There were still quite a lot of colonies in the 1960s! How quickly we forget.

I enjoyed. Will see if I can persuade the kids to play sometime.

Fair point!

Not sure they were all wrong, even with hindsight. The Tlaxcalan nobility didn't really need to regret the deal they did with the Spanish.

I guess it's what they learned from Niemoeller. First she came for The Da Vinci Code but I did nothing because I was not a Dan Brown fan...
October 14, 2025 at 9:41 AM
People who have this attitude to books probably don't own Da Vinci Code though? Like a vinyl record collection back in the day, the physical books are a statement about identity and values.

good luck

No way you can count the A3 as a ring road!

I enjoyed reading the supplements, but as actual *adventure* material I found them poor.

I did not guess

I remember the critical hit table in MERP. Best bit about that game, frankly.

That's just a more honest name for senior management isn't it?

To be fair the knocker-up gets up even earlier than the other workers for no more pay, and the market for invisible hairnets isn't what it used to be either. I'm not sure these are better jobs than the one you've got now.
