I used to watch drivers on Rainier triggering one of these signs & play the game of "wait until someone goes the speed limit." Drivers were routinely 10+ mph over.

This is absolutely an exact thought I've had. So interesting.

Seattle is lucky to have you! Great news.

If she follows these two scenarios, there will be plenty of money left over (I'd bet about $20m) from these 2 items & she can propose to reprogram that excess funding to go toward the deficit in the next budget. You know, being responsible and whatnot.

The last 2 mayors were great at not spending money Council appropriated. Katie's team can find creative ways to use funding within proviso limits & reduce harm at the same time. We got rid of the Navigation Team once. Now's time to do it again.

And my perspective is definitely skewed by the trauma of American roadways so there's that. I'm just glad to not have constant fear that an inpatient or angry driver may crush me with their howitzer tank-sized vehicle. So, Nantes gives me hope.

You're both right. There's more to do, but it's a universe apart from a lot of cities. I'm gonna celebrate the win & continue to ask for more. Every corner of Nantes deserves safe connected infrastructure. Hopefully what's happening now is the foundation for that future.

I guess I'll give some grace to CM Juarez because I forgot she left retirement to take back the job she seemed really annoyed by. She's the one on the Council with "appropriate" or "adequate" experience.

None of the CMs have the track record that Katie has had. She's worked for over a decade straight on leading & passing community-developed policy. Kettle was a community council member. Saka was a Facebook lawyer. Rivera was a mid-level dept manager. Nelson owned a brewery. I can go on

I personally really enjoyed working w/ Adonis. However. I was really disappointed when he openly shit talked Tammy early on in his campaign. I thought our working relationship was better than that & that he was above that. It was a real bummer, especially since he knows how much we actually did.

The thing that sets Katie apart is that she was able to win a living wage & several renter protections in Seattle + several other WA cities, collaborate on multiple forms of progressive revenue, aid in the creation of EU-style social housing, & influence other policy all without ever being elected.

4 years & 1-2 legislative accomplishments has to be a new record as least effective CM in Seattle history. Like, what did her office do??? Genuinely curious.

So proud of you Katie! So proud of Seattle.

In stark contrast to this, the socialist mayor in my city running for reelection has built a coalition of the left: socialists, communists, ecologists, unaffiliated lefties, & regional leftist parties. They're all participating because it's a winning strategy for all. SDSA or SA don't play that game
November 13, 2025 at 1:32 PM
I think there's a reason that a lot of folks leave Seattle socialist orgs and it has a lot to do with their tendency to expect 100% alignment, 100% fielty to the chapter or group, 100% purity. That blocks coalition building and is pretty antithetical to other socialist orgs worldwide. It's a bummer.

When I started @beseattleorg.bsky.social Katie was one of my organizer role models. Then, as I transitioned to the City, I was lucky to work w/ her on a number of innovative policy changes. Unlike many other organizers, myself included, I never saw her go negative & that is her strength. 👏👏🥳 Seattle

For anyone disenchanted by politics, Katie prooves that 1 person can make a difference. She's been quietly & successfully organizing for better rights for all for a long time. She started her own org, was always open to organizing w/ a broad coalition, & always did so w/ positivity. You can do this.
