I hope we get some new characters. Unfortunately with most soft reboots and general nostalgia bait, there's very little room in the eyes of the industry for growth or risk taking. Gotta keep it safe. Gotta be familiar.

I agree. Personally, I fear this won't even have the same kinda spirit of the Gremlins movies. I cannot deny my curiosity though.
