it's as good as it looks
Yeah it's a Vietnam movie. A good one at that.

Ok, the aesthetics obviously point towards Vietnam but I don't think the the other things fit it quite well enough.

Again, I don't think we disagree. My point wasn't about WHAT they censor, but HOW they censor it.

That's fine, sure. But then how do you want to solve this issue? The first & crucial step is understanding how & why it is the way it is. And the main driver of this is people abusing these platforms.

Genuinely curious: what are its main flaws?

This is very bad but I'm not sure it's about avoiding accountability. I think it's more about "if you have a fixed ruleset, malicious actors will find a way to toe the line that you might still want to ban". Think "horse girl" ads. It's bad, but I'm not sure a fixed ruleset alone would fix it.

I do think "platforms are monopolies now, but their moderation is not done in accordance to a ruleset and creators have to keep guessing" is one of the big issues of our time, but I don't think platforms are doing this bc they're stupid, and I'm not convinced fixed rules alone would fix this.

The key is to make it impossible for bad actors to drain your resources. Unfortunately, if you allow complaints, or even just lay out what it takes for you to be able to complain, it all just becomes a puzzle to solve. You simply can't give anything away, or ppl will find a way to abuse it.

You can't even have a comms channel open for feedback bc bad actors will simply flood it. This results in people getting caught in it and there's nothing you can do about it.

Admittedly, it seems like even this model barely works, given the ad quality on Youtube...

But I don't know the solution.

"Oh but the consequences" nuh-uh, those other kids should bring the birth rate up and fix the economy. My special boy has just hit a rough patch but he'll be alright, I'm here for him.
