I suspect part of the year long delay is that he tried to sell it as a book and got laughed at.

I doubt a paywalled substack was his primary plan. seems much more likely a backup option.

look, if I want to buy my nephew 500 smoke detectors and a textbook on nuclear physics as a Christmas present, that's my right as an American.

in their minds, public transit is for poor people, and they don't want their tax money being spent on poor people.

if there's traffic congestion in NYC, they should simply add more lanes to Manhattan streets. I assume that's easy to do and will not be looking into it further.

that's Port Townsend. on the right at the very beginning you can see the Navy crane on Indian Island.

a trick I learned from my grandma is freezing chicken stock into ice cube trays, then stuffing the turkey with them before it goes into the oil.

I miss her so much. she died in a house fire a few years ago, right around this time of year.

for movies, watch all the James Bond movies, in chronological order, and listen to the Kill James Bond podcast episode after each one. the movies are all terrible, but listening to KJB make fun of them makes watching them tolerable.

my go-to recommendation for "I want something long and engrossing to read" is Peter F. Hamilton's Commonwealth Saga. the original duology (Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained) is almost 2000 pages. the Void trilogy (set in the same universe) adds on another 2000. well-written and not at all a slog.
