Impressive November the 1st skies down at the beach with the dog. A good little hike, the sea was whipping up a foam and the light moving up and down the channel like the waves.

Bit of a stunner last night, timed the dusk dog walks to perfection and was treated to glorious views. #sunset #wales

"Blodeuwedd"

Oil Paints

In Welsh mythology, she was conjured from broom, meadowsweet, & oak blossoms by magicians, as a bride for Lleu Llaw Gyffes. I wanted to depict a being caught between the wild magic of her floral origins & the solidness of her human form #oilpaint #art #welshart #mabinogion

“Thinking About You Fondly”

Pencils

The starting point was an antique CDV portrait that I developed in a sketchbook piece. I’m undecided if she’s creating a being with her hair, or dismantling him. Either way, for me, it’s a piece steeped in desire, longing and resignation. #art #pencilart #wales

The Mari Morgen are mischievous water spirits from Welsh & Breton folklore. They could be both alluring and deadly, and likened to mermaids without tails. Their ability to manipulate water would often see them blamed for floods and heavy rain. #FolkloreThursday - Art: Mari Morgen Startles A Heron

“Blodeuwedd”

Oil on canvas board

Inspired by the old Welsh tale of Blodeuwedd, the magical maiden created from flowers and later transformed into an owl. This was very much based around the initial stages of her life. It’s finished, but will need a coat of varnish.

A commission piece I worked on last week. Bit of a challenge, as you can see hiw damaged the original photo was. I’m always open to commissions, just drop me a message here or visit the Commissions page at daytripart.com for prices and more info. #art #commissionsopen #commission #pencilart

“Thinking Of You Fondly…” Sketchbook piece that sort of came to life in the initial drawing. Opened a load of new photo purchases on my TikTok live earlier today, then choose one to do an off-the-cuff drawing from. This was the result.

Working in the sketchbook as it’s as much as I can commit at the moment. Have a few ideas on the go for future development. This one’s called An Exchange, Of Sorts, and is a nod to the old Tylwyth Teg and their mischievous ways. #art #sketch #fairylore #tylwythteg #welshart #wales

Quite chuffed with these photos my daughter took of me in the gallery. She's doing GCSE photography, so I thought it would be good to put her through her paces. Needed to get some shots for the new website that's on its way. Even had me hair cut and shaved especially... 😂 #artist #art #artgallery

Having varnished this 6 months ago, it's been sitting around waiting for a frame. Now I can show off Melangell's Cloak at the gallery. This was my first time using oils since my art college days, 30 years ago. Looks good in its floater frame, I think. #art #oilpainting #celfcymru #welshart #painting

#FolkloreThursday Crows have a long history of association with witches, both as familiars or essential to spell casting. It was believed they could fly between this & the spirit world, cementing the relationship with the witchy kind. Inspired by that association I made this artwork, Madam Bird #art

#FolkloreThursday Tasseomancy (reading tea leaves) & spinning wheels often feature in Welsh folklore, being favourites of both trad Welsh ladies & witches. My piece is called "In Annwn, Everything is Fine - An Accord of Sorts" and nods to those traditions #tasseomancy #divination #welshfolklore #tea

#FolkloreThursday Some witchy folklore from North Somerset. Fanny Pope gained a reputation for being able to transform herself into a hare, to lure hunters to her grandson’s inn, the Poult Inn. She was once almost caught, but her efforts helped the business. Picture is my own. #hare #witch #somerset

Took some time out today to do a sketchbook piece. Was doodling figures in dynamic poses, watching the Apprentice last night. Did a couple of little sketches & sized this up today. It's called Departure, and maybe I will develop it into something else in the future. #art #ink #ghost #welshart #draw

#FolkloreThursday Welsh folklore tells of "gwynt traed y meirw" or "the wind that blows over the feet of corpses" - an easterly wind which foretold either a death or good fortune, depending on local tradition. Named because corpses were buried with feet facing east, from where this wind originated.
