Having worked in defense for 16 years I know how things that should be cheap become very expensive for no reason. I remember the GBU-15 glide bomb test set. Instead of a simple $10K design we had to create this very expensive, large system with bubble memory. It had to work -55 to +125 degrees C.

Yeah, it’s time for me to do another re-read of William Shirer’s Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. The parallels are impossible to ignore. ICE has become a cross between the Brownshirts and the Gestapo—intimidation and enforcement rolled into one.
