...the rest are just software instruments in Logic). At first I thought what I had made was a demo, but then I realized it got the idea perfectly just so. The distorted vocal of me saying “rip rop” etc that comes in at 2:40 is, to me, the most delicious part of the song.

It’s a song about feeling useless. It pours it on a little thick, but I think it’s useful to pour it on thick when you’re having a pity party for yourself. This song might be a useful tool to you if you’re feeling pretty dumb and you want to wallow in that feeling for a moment.

it’s a portrait of the seeker who has reached the limits of their ability to function in the moral/spiritual system they come from. I hope it’s not too on the nose to have the “talk slowly and repeat yourself several times” mode of talking in a foreign place illustrated in the vocals? Thoughts?

Lyrically, it’s about trying to find an easy spiritual out in a culture that isn’t yours. The narrator is like unto a Westerner doing “Eat Pray Love” or a settler colonist trying to “going native”. We have no idea what the people getting this framework put upon them feel, but rather...

I wrote this one in one go in 2022, kicked around different arrangements & ultimately something with accordion & trombone and pizzicato bass + voice was the right fit. @whatcoloris.bsky.social did a particularly nice job with the accordion, here’s a photo of us rehearsing from a couple months ago.
