Yes, I did the same thing and came across his obituary and it mentioned it. He lived to 2006 into his 90s. Quite the longevity the Jones family has.

No idea why I remembered that.

Love the film although The Wire is a classic it’s so much harder to pull off now. I am sure people do something like it over ‘real time trading’ systems though where you could persuade somebody you have a faster connection and can beat the stock market.

I once cooked for friends and the need for yams was impressed upon me so I searched for various recipes and the CUPS or sugar that go into their creation. It is not for the faint of heart nor weak of pancreas.

We once booked at a Korean place in Tolworth and while they wrote down our reservation I saw they wrote ‘English’ when I gave my name.

It’s the reason this thread started. There’s no cost of living crisis because it only affects a few elite cities and not the average American.

If that isn’t a colossal fuck you to people who live in those cities I don’t know what is.
November 26, 2025 at 4:46 AM
That works both ways. You get that?

Telling us in the coastal cities that we don’t matter and that people in expensive cities should move isnt ‘bringing everyone along’ either.

And would you recommend to a trans friend to move to, say, Oklahoma? Because mine are trying to get out of there too.

By Brian. Have fun.
November 26, 2025 at 3:11 AM
Good for you. Keep at it.

I’m not telling you to stop.

You’re backing the position that the solution to high cost of living here is to move.

Who’s the asshole?
November 26, 2025 at 2:47 AM
You are correct.
November 26, 2025 at 2:42 AM
Can’t disagree. And it’s frustrating as all hell.
November 26, 2025 at 2:40 AM
As I said. I’m not the one telling people to move to places that don’t share their values because it’s cheaper.

I think that’s the asshole move myself.

Yeah so if I’m the asshole for not wanting to support places that vote this way. Then guilty.

But I’m not telling people to move to states like that because the states that didn’t are expensive.

I don’t think anybody should compromise their opinions because of cost of living because of averages.
November 26, 2025 at 2:33 AM
I judge states that voted in the majority for Trump. Yes.

Sorry.

I don’t want to live in areas that are majority Trump voting. Again sorry but I don’t.

I’ll grant the average house price is low to buy in Houston but rentals seem wildly detached there.
November 26, 2025 at 2:11 AM
I was looking specifically at rentals.

I think the communication thing is really key here. He thought actions spoke larger than words and he was wrong.
November 26, 2025 at 2:00 AM
I’ll give him that list is essentially the same population but it includes 5 cities with average rents that are the same as/close to or more than Seattle which is very much not cheap.
November 26, 2025 at 1:58 AM
And ironically if you sum up ALL those metros they’re still the same and ignores that his list includes places that are on par with or more expensive than some of those coastal elite cities.
November 26, 2025 at 1:57 AM
Except Houston is similar average cost to Seattle.
November 26, 2025 at 1:56 AM
Some of them are. Mostly the obviously ones with strong local economics.

Gosh. Who’d have thunk.
November 26, 2025 at 1:54 AM
Of these Raleigh Durham, Austin, Richmond and Denver are basically the same or MORE than Seattle according to Zillow.
November 26, 2025 at 1:53 AM
Also Austin isn’t that much cheaper than Seattle. $1.9k v $2.1k

Shall I check some of the others?
November 26, 2025 at 1:51 AM
Which is why averages can be problematic to use 🙄
