My old Sigma 14mm lens has become hazy (or something), so I decided to get a Nikon 14mm f2.8 (much better, although also bigger) from KEH. Ordered it yesterday and got it today. Scared the crap outa me when I mounted it on the D850, looked through the viewfinder, and saw this thing coming at me.

If you are into B&W photography and get Netflix, you should consider checking out the series "Ripley" (IMDb 8.1) which is filmed in B&W. The photography is so good that you can almost pause it anywhere and you get a B&W still that most photographers would be proud to have taken themselves.

Since my old SB-80DX is not the best flash for my new D850, I decided to order an SB-600 graded at EX+ from KEH. It came in immaculate condition and works great.

But, now my old Sigma 14mm lens has haze and I noticed KEH has a nice Nikon 14mm in EX+ condition... The temptation never ends...

I've been experimenting with my first serious digital camera. For someone like me, with few artistic skills, who is interested more in the craft, digital is a completely different universe. I doubt it will ever supplant my interest in analog, but I can see how someone can be seduced by HDR...

Noticed an abandoned gas station outside Arab, AL during a road trip and went back later to snap a few. Not as picturesque as I hoped, but I shot a roll of HP5+ with the Hy6 (50mm lens), developed in Rodinal 1:50, and printed on Ilford Cooltone RC. Scans are from the prints.

I remember seeing photographs from Elton John's collection exhibited in the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. It was epic. Jane Jackson of Jackson Fine Art curated the collection for years. www.christies.com/en/events/th...

I like listening to 40s and 50s jazz when I'm in the darkroom because it's in black and white, just like the pictures I'm printing. 😀

My new D850 has arrived, but the battery was so dead that it would barely read any voltage at all. It's charging now, but lithium holds a charge remarkably well, so it surprised me that it was that dead More batteries were supposed to arrive with the camera, but Amazon only shipped them today.

Well, the D850 was on sale again, so I finally pulled the trigger and ordered it. It's supposed to arrive on Sunday. This will be my first serious digital camera, all because it's just getting to be too much of a hassle to travel by air with film and I'm afraid they'll soon stop making the D850.
Since traveling with film has become such a pain, I've researched getting a digital camera that would use all my Nikon lenses and the D850 is at the top of my list. A few weeks ago it was $2500. Now it's $2800 and soon it will be back to list price ($3000). 🤨

Update: I got the lens back from Nikon exactly one month after they received it. The final cost was $326.15, about $170 lower than their automated estimate. I've thoroughly tested the lens and everything works fine. I've had equipment take as long as 11 months for repair, so this is great!
Dropped my Nikon F6 on the floor. Strap came loose. Camera seems okay, but the lens has a new look. The zoom ring is obviously knocked loose, but I don't see any other damage. Glass looks good, no cracks or breakage in the exterior. Focus and aperture work and I can hear the VR go on and off.

I timed AFTER THE THIN MAN on Max so the new year would strike simultaneously on film and in real life.

After it did, I paused. When I restarted, I got this message.

A good reminder for 2024: physical media doesn’t disappear at midnight.

I posted in my blog about my recent purchase of a used Hasselblad system from KEH, mostly in terms of avoiding the risks in today's used camera market. I noticed Photrio has also has some ongoing discussion about ebay scams in their medium format forum.

Some pics showing the 2007 setup for the fork and ball picture. I think I used a Nikon F100 and an old 35mm f2.8 Nikkor converted non-AI lens. The background light is a 4 foot fluorescent and I probably just used the modeling lights from the studio flash units. Base was black Formica grid pattern.
