I wondered when that place was going to get redeveloped

A successful Canadian league should focus on mid-sized markets, with appropriately sized stadiums that are in or near the downtown core.

The three best CPL clubs in terms of fan attendance are all in stadiums that are in or near downtown and close to transit and bars.

The ones that are struggling are outside the urban core.

This is why Halifax’s pop up stadium works and Langley’s doesn’t.

Second, people prefer downtown stadiums. More transport options. Closer to amenities like bars and restaurants.

That’s why the whole trend is to build pro sports facilities in central locations.

Even a relatively crappy stadium like BC place that is central is better than a pop up in Langley.

That’s their best ever attendance number. They certainly didn’t draw those kind of numbers in CSL or NASL II, and even as recently as 2023 they were averaging less than 17,000 a game.

First, MLS is a bigger draw than CPL at present because it’s a better on field product.

The Caps have also had decades to build their fan base. Even then they had to sign one of the best players to ever play the game to get those kind of numbers.

Must be a sweet gig to be wrong as often as Mills and still keep getting contracts.

Vancouver FC? Stadium is in a terrible location and the branding is awful.

Valour was also poorly run: created as an excuse to get the Bombers stadium loans written off. Once it had served that purpose they ran it into the ground.

Top tier pie.

What kind of pie? The internet needs to know.

It was a way for them to get their loans forgiven, and once that happened, they clearly stopped caring about it.

Sounds like Wade Miller was a major factor in the club’s closure
