A caller reported a broken down vehicle on the MacKay, HFX-Bound

Looks like that's about half-way across the MacKay...and the CIRC was already backed-up to the Burnside Drive exit BEFORE this incident #HFXTraffic

Really interesting thread.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Halifax tried closing one street to car traffic to prioritize transit, did nothing to enforce it, decided immediately it didn’t work, and never tried it again. #WorldClass
iCYMI: "Paris started with periodic, strategic closures of key streets, then day-long closures of the entire city center, always in the context of the conversation about air quality, livability & noise…It's a very smart way of doing it." — @brenttoderian.bsky.social in BlogTO. #Paris

In today’s least surprising local news, speed display signs aren’t enough to make our roads safer.
Speed display signs only slow drivers down by 1km/h: Halifax report
Halifax has installed nearly 50 speed display signs around the municipality, but on average they only slow down drivers by less than one km/h, according to a new staff report.

Some of us warned against this, but the obsession with low taxes overwhelmed fiscal prudence.
Morse is up asking how badly council fucked itself by spending it's reserves to keep taxes low

Staff (paraphrased) we're pretty fucked, we need to charge taxes to start saving again, but also pay interest to on the money we borrowed to cover the cost of not having reserves.

Cool. President of the United States threatening to revoke ABC’s license for asking a completely relevant question about the murder of a journalist.
“Trump called the inquiry about Khashoggi from ABC News reporter Mary Bruce a “horrible, insubordinate and just a terrible question,” adding that “I think the license should be taken away from ABC, because your news is so fake and it’s so wrong.”

Archaeologists have unearthed a Bronze Age metropolis in the heart of the Eurasian steppe: an early form of city as complex as those of contemporary, more traditionally 'urban' civilisations, showing how steppe polities were just as sophisticated.
