The Vatican has a bit of experience with sub-literate wealthy people impressed with their earthly power, who require little visual jabs to remind them of their cosmic smallness, moral poverty, and dark fate. The Church commissioned plenty of publicly displayed art depicting hell to do just that.

This idea relies on equivocation about "wrong," by assuming it's about leaders being "mistaken" or "incorrect." And it crumbles in the face of hypotheticals about leaders knowingly doing wrong.

"You, cut off that prisoner's fingers with a sawzall."
"Uh...it is vital to preserve civilian oversight."

The American Dream as I understand it is that we can build a society where everyone gets what they deserve in this life, good or bad, no matter the odds. Subtle but significant difference from Communism. If we don't try them here, it flies in the face of who we are.

“Strong floor, no ceiling” is absolutely the type of slogan that a focus group of swing voters will tell you they find appealing after it has been a whole hour and they just want to go home.

It’s a slogan for people convinced this country *really* wants a Mike Bloomberg presidential campaign.
