it's people's job to collect labor statistics and tell us what they say about the economy in general, which is not a thing people experience directly (which in turn helps to explain why we bother with the first bit)

Yeah, having reported a story in this last year, it’s a very recent phenomenon that even *most* first-class tickets are bought in cash, and the proportion of premium class tickets in a given plane has also increased a lot. Used to be used mostly as a free upgrade pot sweetener for frequent flyers.
