Ooof. I can’t believe X chose this case, and this place, to fight a global takedown order.

Canada is the one country with a Supreme Court decision supporting global takedowns. The case came out of BC, like this one.

It was about trade secrets. This is an ugly NCII case involving a trans person. 1/

Google has moved from moral cowardice (removing ICE tracking apps) to direct complicity in the violent, unconstitutional abuse of vulnerable people.

As a civil liberties lawyer who worked at Google for ten years, this one hits me in the gut.

I don’t really understand the theory on deprecating this particular cluster of laws. @domingosmiguel.bsky.social, you study laws with “data” in their names, maybe this makes sense to you?
Uh... per @iapp.bsky.social the leaked EU Digital Omnibus would repeal the entire P2B Regulation, most of the Data Governance Act, and the Free Flow of Non-Personal Data Regulation?? Am I misreading?

At least I never read that last one. Or most of the second one honestly.

This is real news. Reporters, please report on it.

ELEVEN former top FCC officials, Republican and Democratic, came together to condemn FCC Chairman Carr's abuses of power and efforts to suppress legal speech.

It's not just Jimmy Kimmel. The FCC's jawboning and chill on legal speech is ongoing.
Government has no business policing media for viewpoint bias or balance. The FCC must repeal its news distortion policy, urges a bipartisan group of 11 former FCC Chairs, Commissioners & other top officials in a petition we filed today with @protectdemocracy.org

This story about Disney and YouTube being locked in negotiations over their content carriage deal is the reason I had very mixed feelings about Google acquiring YouTube in the first place.

Have you ever seen anything more intertwined with Hollywood?

Disney's CFO told CNBC this morning that the company had steeled itself for a possible carriage fight with YouTube and "we're ready to go as long as they want to."

The thought of reading this fills me with inertia and desire to do literally anything else. But it's incredibly important! And @domingosmiguel.bsky.social read it.
And boom, just like that, the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court has done what the Brazilian Congress has been discussing for years: determined a notice and takedown for illegal content and platform liability in case of non compliance. It’s DSA bycourt ruling, baby!

I love “We Can Just Do Things” as a description of what ATProto is enabling so much.
This is super cool, and a real validation of the ecosystem. Forget all the whining about filter bubbles or what not. What's happening here is important, in large part because it allows people to build cool shit, not wait for some billionaire to order a lackey to build what they want at your expense
On Tuesday night, you may have noticed something a little different on Bluesky. Here's a peek behind the scenes of how the election feed came together. Endlessly grateful for this collaboration with @wnyc.org/@gothamist.com & @bsky.app!

I'm unimpressed by Reddit's lawsuit against Perplexity et al. In the process of pleading notably weak DMCA claims, I think Reddit pleads itself out of court on its state-law claims.

FWIW, when you talk to Democrats about MTG, Lauren Boebert or any of the other MAGA crew, they obviously find them horrible and bad. But when you talk to them about Nancy Mace, there's almost a level of pity. Ilhan Omar told me "I hope she does get the help she needs."

But the problem I personally experience multiple times a day is that it takes 500 frustrating steps to view content, even when I am a paying subscriber. 1/
