Stir it all up and finish cooking on low heat for another couple minutes. Serve on a bed of boiled buckwheat (made ahead of time in bulk in a rice cooker). (2/2)

My favorite meal in the world is a super simple liver recipe I learned from my grandma: chop up some liver (any animal) into bite size pieces, sauté on med-high heat in butter until almost done, then add salt, pepper, and more sour cream than seems reasonable. (1/2)

She may also have been trying to say "deely boppers", which is what those antenna thingies are called!

I kinda wish there was a technological solution? Like a labeler that infers the geographic "scope" of a post and users being able to filter which scopes are relevant to them. Probably infeasible to do accurately, but would be nice

Yeah I mean I can't begrudge NYCers posting about what matters to them, but I was already getting sick of hearing about their mayoral race while the primary was ongoing. This must be how non-Americans feel on social media all the time.

Based on Russian Wikipedia, it does look like funchoza and fěnsī are related:

Фунчо́за[1] (дунг. 粉條子 фынтёзы II-I-II, 粉條兒 фынтёр II-I[2], кит. трад. 粉絲, упр. 粉丝, пиньинь fěnsī, палл. фэньсы, обиходные названия — «стеклянная, крахмальная, китайская лапша»)

So my uninformed guess would be that the word originally came from a non-Korean language (possibly Chinese, based on the start of the wiki article?) and just referred to glass noodles, and then was applied to this specific dish when it became popular

I got curious, so I did some searching in Russian. Looks like "фунчоза" in Russian can refer to (Chinese, Korean, or Japanese) glass noodle dishes in general, although the specific dish you're talking about is the most common use.

Oh wow that makes so much sense! I recently saw what I think was a barn owl and was struck by how silent it was while making a lot of motion. I even used the word specter to describe it!

An owl just flew past my head while up on the roof, in downtown Berkeley. Astounding animal. Looked like some sort of specter - whitish, making a lot of motion and ZERO sound.

The last couple of times I saw that tweet deployed, it was in response to comparisons btwn the Trump admin and Putin's Russia or the USSR. I think it's time to retire it.

Initially domesticated but left to go feral?
... Hold on, you could totally make a theology out of that

I wonder how you befriend an owl. Leave dead mice on the roof before going to bed? Seems unsanitary
