The trailing space didn't make a difference for me. But yes, ss is the way to go! The equivalent command with ss is:

ss -n -t src :2049

Nice! That sounds like a pretty ideal scenario for GenomeDK. We currently store ~20 PB data of all sorts, so your use-case is pretty normal in our world.

I assume your group is with Faculty of Health? If so, it is pretty much free, actually. The prices on the website are for "external" users, but as a HE group you're "internal" :-)

I'm at GenomeDK (genome.au.dk), but you probably already checked it out. Sounds like it would fit your use-cases quite well though (not knowing anything abut brain imaging data whatsoever).
