So yeah, absolutely with you on not calling any old thing you dislike cosy. Because that's a word I use for some of the things I like.

That's not a game that refuses to challenge your beliefs and hell, it changed mine. I may have been trending that way already but I came out of Coffee Talk considerably more ACAB than I went in.

Real issues like racism, exploitative contract deals, child abuse in the music industry and a pretty blatant parody of ICE in the second game. Which then develop across several nights and are given proper thought in the process.

Like, I would call Coffee Talk a cosy game. It is about bringing people together through late night warm drinks and conversation, essentially running a tiny community like you might in a farm sim. But, as people chat about their lives, they naturally bring up the societal issues affecting them.

I hate that "cosy" has become this at all. Because a comfy, heartwarming atmosphere is not synonymous with the hypersafe, refuses to say anything of substance stuff that fascists use to sell themselves without having their beliefs brought in to question.

There's also this, which suggests his hostility towards enbies has not improved since (first 2 pics last month, last from the 2023 haul).
Unfortunately, the main dev doesn’t respect us.

So I found the extended set of screenshots but it seems the rant portion was from 2023 and only these snippets are newer? Slightly misleading, though I still think even the newer ones come off a little hostile so make of it what you will.

Not paying bigots is more important than figuring out whether it's legal for them to take money.
November 27, 2025 at 7:55 AM
I haven't checked what features are and aren't paywalled to be honest. I don't think it matters. Partially because any payment in something this legally grey is likely to draw unwanted attention and partially because yeah, who cares when the dev's a transphobe with nazi friends as mods?
November 27, 2025 at 7:55 AM
I am not fond of the Steam-like achievement system. Especially when it's applied to older games made without it in mind. I was adding onto your "we don't need this" with my own "I'd actually prefer not to have it".
November 27, 2025 at 7:44 AM
Sorry, wrong quote. That post seems to have clipped lines out of context, I'll try and find the full rant again.

If you want newer:
*ATTENTION* UsagiShade, main dev of iiSU is transphobic. #iiSU #Emulation #AndroidEmulation

I understand wanting to be paid for work but when your work is primarily a tool for piracy, that's going to invite a lot of legal scrutiny very quickly.
November 27, 2025 at 7:20 AM
Cis folk being posers in the trans furry's domain, huh?
November 27, 2025 at 7:17 AM
I actively prefer gaming without a meaningless bragging rights to do list slapped on.
November 27, 2025 at 7:15 AM
My understanding of the word is that "bussy" is usually more metaphorical than strictly literal but also that person seems to like throwing around the F-slur as a perjorative so...
November 27, 2025 at 6:53 AM
If Usagi's sensitive to things like that, why are they online?
November 27, 2025 at 6:38 AM
The jedi aren't supposed to form attachments so why attach themselves to any one gender?
November 27, 2025 at 6:29 AM
"Might be"? I pay enough attention to know. And I try to comfort and affirm where I can. They do deserve better.
November 27, 2025 at 6:23 AM
Bill from Lost Kingdoms 2. He's not even in the game. The localisers made him up. But he adds so much life to this mechanic exposition!

Placeholders made of the average expected response to a prompt are not good placeholders as they're hard to spot and remove at a glance compared to simple things like "<text here>", "<Charles is sad> or "<Laura explains how her dog became a monster>".
November 27, 2025 at 2:18 AM
Wouldn't be the first to do it, either. Classic JRPGs would absolutely just drop textboxes with sweat drops, hearts, energetic mouth lines or that angry forehead vein icon from time to time and they were charming!

"No... Zzz... I don't like bell peppers!"
November 27, 2025 at 2:11 AM
Mad respect for that! Sounds like a real dedication to your craft and, while it doesn't really tell me what the gameplay's like, I damn well hope it's my thing if everything's up to that kind of standard! Will be checking it out later for sure!

Even Balatro, which has been said many times to have been made for that exact reason, went out of its way to add snarky dialogue to give it a more human feel.
Number goes up can be good but few players, if any, want that without the coat of paint and personaility.
