The article on Iowa City replacing bus fares by @carabuckley.bsky.social does a solid job explaining some of the benefits of eliminating fares in a small city with additional subsidies.

The problem is not acknowledging those circumstances are different in big cities.

Seeing big city Dem politicians give up on their bluesky account doesn't bode great for this place.

Hard to see how we're going to greatly expand publicly-owned social housing if housing authorities like Philadelphia Housing Authority can't bring down the costs of maintaining their properties.

Public employees working for housing authorities deserve decent wages and good working conditions.

But you can understand why contracting out seems appealing when the alternative is an operating model where every task is an ordeal.

A little awkward for social democrats that the Philadelphia Housing Authority can save $24 million A YEAR by contracting our some maintenance work 😬😬😬

Of course the nearby Jefferson Market Garden was also locked up this morning (as it will be for the next few months).

Was a real bummer hearing a mom explain to their toddler that they couldn't go in. I wish the library ensured this publicly owned amenity was accessible.

As he often does Kenny Burgos is pointing out the state just doesn't have the money to take over, fix up, and run a bunch of old rent stabilized buildings if they go insolvent.

Finding the money to fix up NYCHA is going to be difficult enough, let alone more housing stock.

Section 610, which allows owners with tenant- or project-based rental assistance to collect the full rental subsidy amount, even if it is above the legal rent, is brought up by Emily Kurtz from RiseBoro Community Partnership, Inc.

Great program, IF there's a voucher.
