We cannot keep allowing these utilities to treat these hikes as business as usual while their customers struggle to pay their bills. Michigan’s utility corporations must be held accountable to their customers as they seek these incessant rate hikes.

Although I secured a court order releasing emergency funds, the delay of SNAP benefits will still be felt over the coming weeks.

Providing food assistance to residents in need is not just a moral issue, it’s also a legal one. I am grateful that the court has agreed that the USDA is obligated to spend available funding to support food assistance and prevent Americans from going hungry.

Emergency funding exists for exactly this kind of crisis. If the reality of 42 million Americans going hungry, including 1.4 million Michiganders, isn’t an emergency, I don’t know what is.
