Xavier’s Law complements federal Bill C-14, which gives judges the ability to impose driving bans for dangerous or reckless driving that causes death or serious injury.
Together, they strengthen both prevention and accountability. This legislation is about ensuring safer roads in B.C.

The Superintendent can already prohibit high-risk drivers for up to 36 months, but police are not currently required to report reckless driving incidents.
This bill closes that gap and makes reporting mandatory.

The bill defines reckless driving clearly:
More than 40 km/h over the speed limit where it is under 80 km/h
More than 50 km/h over the speed limit where it is 80 km/h or higher
Driving 150 km/h or more, racing, stunts, or deliberate loss of control

Xavier’s Law creates an immediate 30-day driving prohibition for reckless driving and requires police to report every reckless driving incident to the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.
This ensures dangerous drivers can be identified and removed from the road quickly.
