Because Trump voters got us into this mess— that seems fairly obvious.
November 10, 2025 at 9:52 PM
What leverage? What progress was being made? There's no evidence anything was going to change. Republicans do not care if there is a shutdown.

All they were doing was hurting the 44 million people who have no food assistance, and the millions who have no work and are standing in food lines.
November 10, 2025 at 5:49 AM
Indeed, I kind of wish Republicans had done what Trump said and killed the filibuster as well.
November 10, 2025 at 5:42 AM
Well it's just business as usual then. I don't make assumptions about ANYTHING he'll do -- nobody should. Basing your decisions on what Trump might do will simply make you insane.
November 10, 2025 at 4:48 AM
What evidence do you have that they were about to win?? That's news to literally everyone in the Senate and Congress.
November 10, 2025 at 4:46 AM
I see. Well certainly NODODY of good conscience is happy with ANYTHING that's been going on. I don't see any perfect solutions as long as Republicans are in power-- which is why it annoys me to see so many prominent Democrats immediately attacking Democrats in the Senate for this. MAGA is the enemy.
November 10, 2025 at 4:45 AM
The SNAP issue was sent to the Supreme Court and has not been resolved. Trump has done everything he can think of to prevent SNAP funding. The USDA said it could take weeks if not months to send the payments. Meanwhile millions are in food lines.

The Senate agreement funds SNAP for a year.
November 10, 2025 at 4:39 AM
Republicans COULD have done a lot of stuff that they will NEVER EVER do. But sure, blame Democrats.
November 10, 2025 at 4:36 AM
How awful, I'm sorry you and your family had to experience that.

I feel like this analogue is too serious to be used in a political context.
November 10, 2025 at 4:31 AM
Well look, we can't do their thinking for them. At some point, red America has to grow up and figure this shit out for themselves. But SNAP recipients shouldn't have to pay the price for their inattention.
November 10, 2025 at 4:26 AM
Yes, I think they were NOT starting to break. Proof? The fact that Trump was telling states to claw back any SNAP benefits they sent. Republicans DO NOT CARE about food lines. They DO NOT CARE about the American people.

Dems have NO leverage.
November 10, 2025 at 4:24 AM
I wasn't referring to you, I was referring to the last 40 days of political pundits who exaggerated the ACA issue by cherry-picking extreme examples of rate increases to scare everyone. The increase IS a problem, but so is starvation. Now the American people have more time to exert pressure on MAGA.
November 10, 2025 at 4:22 AM
Well, there will be 40 days for the idiots who voted Republicans into power to exert pressure to get them to extend the ACA subsidies. It's up to the people now.
November 10, 2025 at 4:18 AM
Absolutely. In the meantime, the people need to be fed.
November 10, 2025 at 4:17 AM
Well for the next 40 days it's up to the stupid Americans who voted Republicans into Congress to exert their pressure every way they can so they vote the way they want on the ACA.

There are MILLIONS of us versus hundreds of people in Congress. It's up to us.
November 10, 2025 at 4:16 AM
Well, to continue your analogue -- your mom wouldn't have "agreed" to a partial beating. If she is unable to leave, if the law (or the President) will do nothing to help her, SHE HAS NO CHOICE.

Democrats have NO power. The shutdown was just make believe to look tough. They are simply powerless.
November 10, 2025 at 4:14 AM
I agree. I believe there should be Medicare for all, job guarantees for all-- I mean, all the things.

Ss long as people are brainwashed to think we need a "balanced budget", and we have to cut spending AND cut taxes, that's never going to happen.
November 10, 2025 at 4:10 AM
Indeed, that's what OUR FELLOW AMERICANS made happen when they gave all their power to a REPUBLICAN Senate, REPUBLICAN Congress, REPUBLICAN White House.

I don't see why are you fomenting anger at Democrats who ultimately have NO POWER!
November 10, 2025 at 4:02 AM
Yes, there are a lot of issues that need to be addressed. We all know that. IT DOES NOT NEED TO HAPPEN AT THE EXPENSE OF 44 MILLION SNAP RECIPIENTS.
November 10, 2025 at 3:59 AM
Correct. The risk is that in 40 days the extra tax credits that were implemented for a specific subset of the population will likely go up because of the Republicans.

Meanwhile, 44 million people are without SNAP benefits right NOW, and millions are in food lines every day.
November 10, 2025 at 3:58 AM
Courage for whom? For the 100 Senators who are well paid and well fed? Tell that to the people standing in food lines, I'm sure they'll be happy to hear of the Senate's "courage".
November 10, 2025 at 3:55 AM
That's fine, everyone has an opinion. I'd prefer to hear your opinion than a simple "fuck you" since I THINK we are both on the same side against MAGA authoritarianism.

Now is not the time for people on the left to attack each other -- divided we fall. MAGA is the enemy. Not you, and not me.
November 10, 2025 at 3:52 AM
Reading the vicious reaction of well-known Democratic figures tonight makes me wonder how many of them are working secretly for the rightwing-- because now is NOT the time to attack other Democrats who are trying to do the right thing, even if you disagree. MAGA is the enemy!

MAGA IS THE ENEMY!
November 10, 2025 at 3:49 AM
Yes, it's a terrible situation all around. Republicans were never and are never going to do anything sensible to improve the healthcare in this country.

SO is the answer to attack Democrats who are ensuring that poor people have food? MAGA is the enemy, not Democrats.
