On the day the first Guardsmen were deployed, I wrote publicly that deploying U.S. troops needlessly in U.S. cities on an open-ended mission they’re not trained for and that’s certain to create massive civil tensions is destined to end in gunfire.

I also wrote that Trump knew this.

Crime in DC was plummeting when Trump sent troops in. The same everywhere else he sent troops. His only purpose was to get troops not trained to do police work to somehow mess up an assignment they weren’t trained for and—he hoped—get shot for it. This was EXACTLY what he wanted.
